Hi, long time no see. Mostly because life has been boring and these weekly roundups are only interesting if my life has substance.
Books
I finally finished The Museum of Human History and it blew me away... until the last like 50 pages. I loved it and I so wanted it to be a five star read but the end fell flat for me. Nonetheless, I loved it and the commentary on the concept of time and memory.
I started reading The Houseguest by Amparo Davila for a buddy read with booksasmeals on instagram. These short stories were originally published in Spanish so of course, I've been reading them in their original form where I can.
TV
The Pacific (HBO & Netflix)
I grew up watching this with my dad but I dont think I've ever watched it from start to finish and I was very glad I did. The Pacific is a 10 part mini series about the Marine Island Hopping of World War 2. The story mainly centers around three main character story lines, and shows battles from Guadacanal to Iwo Jima. It (in my opinion because I've never fought in a war) realistically depicts the multifacetedness of war and the people at war. Can't say I didn't shed a few tears for a few good men. Highly recommend.
And in my quest to consume more WW2 content, I had apparently bought a copy of the book With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge (a real character in the show) years ago, that I discovered in my shelf today. So I guess that means that's my next book in the queue.
*I also watched a movie with Bruce Willis and Chad Michael Murray but it was SO BAD and I dont remember the name. *I looked it up, its Survive the Night*
Anyway, all I could think about while watching was that Bruce Willis retired because he has Alzheimers and it made me sad, so I forgive him for hardly doing anything to save his family in this movie.
So there you have it. My week in a nutshell.
